London Afternoon Teas with Kids:

Afternoon tea dates back to Queen Victoria’s reign in the 1800s when a society friend complained of “having a stinking feeling” during the late afternoon. All pomp and ceremony and an excellent way to celebrate a special occasion with a tranditional British twist.

  1. The Lanesborough - For a kid-friendly, luxurious experience, The Lanesborough offers a delightful "Children's Afternoon Tea." Little ones can enjoy teddy bear-shaped sandwiches and sweet treats in this elegant setting.

  2. The Chesterfield Mayfair - Your kids will love the "Charlie and the Chesterfield Afternoon Tea," inspired by Roald Dahl's beloved story. It's a scrumdiddlyumptious experience with edible chocolate treats.

  3. The Ampersand Hotel - Their "Science Afternoon Tea" is an educational and delicious adventure for young scientists. It features sweets and savories inspired by the periodic table and the solar system.

  4. Oxo Tower - If your family loves a view, they'll adore this afternoon tea. Overlook London while enjoying homemade cakes and scones.

  5. Fortnum & Mason - The Classic British afternoon tea experience. For more than a century, Fortnum & Mason has been the undisputed home of Afternoon Tea.

A special Royal experience with personal insights into the royal family at Kensington Palace.

Or opt for a special royal experience with High Tea at Kensington Place. “Stroll through the gardens created by Prince Albert and hear the history of Britain's favorite beverage with your guide. Then, enjoy high tea as it's meant to be: nibble on sandwiches, taste cakes and scones, and get personal insights into the royal family.”

Other options:
If you looking for some scones with jam and a cake without the cake stand or price tag, go to the V&A’s cafe (across from the Science Museum in South Kensington) with stained glass windows and frequently someone noodling on the piano. Near the British Museum, the cafe at the London Review of Books bookshop has some of the best cakes.

London Family-Friendly Restaurants:

London’s food scene is as multicultural as its population. Here are some good spots to sample the flavours with your family. For traditional family friendly pub meals see the next list.

  1. Ping Pong - The rich flavors of traditional Chinese dim sum in a space that caters to kids. With Locations across London it’s a good restaurant to follow some sightseeing

  2. Inamo - Inamo's interactive ordering system is a hit with kids. They can customize their dining experience by drawing on their interactive table. The pan-Asian food is also delicious.

A couple of London’s most atmospheric pubs dating from the 17th century to have a pint. Where to stay in London with a Family - good value hotels

London is a sprawling city that takes a while to cross by Tube or cab, so you should choose your location wisely. I would stay near South Bank/Waterloo because you can walk or take a boat to many classic sights such as The Tower of London and the Houses of Parliament. There is also easy access to the District line that will take you to sights in South Kensington.

I recommend these two hotels that offer family rooms near Waterloo:

Sea Containers London

Sea Containers London is a good value hotel for a family with a riverside location.

Park Plaza Country Hall London is a good value family hotel in an excellent location.
