I’m a freelance travel and lifestyle writer who has contributed to CNBC Travel, Families That Love Travel and the UK Cycle Touring Festival.

Why travel? We travel to inform our lives when we come back and stand still. People and places outside our comfort zone.

Life is richer with adventure, whether it’s squeezed into everyday moments or planned across extended trips. It’s easy to lose sight of adventure and playfullness while being the parent of young children.

The purpose of this project, The Distance, is to inspire parents to be more adventurous themselves…and then how to take their family along. I have a minimalist slant - how can I do this with less stuff? I don’t want the weight of my bag to interfere with a hike or a conversation. I also focus on how to plan budget trips without compromising the value of the trip. Knowing what the trip intention helps. For example, going into to nature for a reset with family or eating the best local food in Spain with a foodie friend will help prioritise where you should spend your budget.

Health and wellness is central. I want to help people have richer experiences in nature and in other cultures so that the trip impacts their lives at home. Their health at home. It’s the reset or shake up that helps them see their normal lives more clearly.

Here, I write about travel, minimalism (frequently minimalist travel) and setting up a life abroad as an expat/immigrant. I’m an American who has moved to the the UK and the Netherlands. I’ve been to over 50 countries - really I’ve stopped counting. My background is in marketing, tech and advertising. Currently, I live in London.
